The aim of this work was to make a secreening of alternate hosts to determine the food sources of Triatoma sordida (Stal, 1859) vectors of Chagas Disease by comparing the techniques of precipitin and double.immunodiffusion. Insects were colected in the municipilaty of Aparecida do Tabuado in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The stomach contents of 408 triatomids chinchbugs, captured in and out of room conditions were simultaneously exposed to both techniques and their stomach contents were analyzed: Results indicated that the precipitin technique confirmed that 303 triatomimae fed on a single host: poultry (39,96%), dog (11,51%), rodent (8,58%), horse (5,14%), goat/cow (4,41%), human (2,70%) and opossum (1,97%). Thirty three triatrominae fed in more than one host, as follows: poultry-rodent (1,97%), poultry-dog (1,71%), poultry-horse (1,48%), poultry-opossum (0,99%), poultry-goat/cow (0,50%), human-dog (0,24%), human-opossum (0,24%), horse-opossum (0,24%), rodent–opossum (0,24%), human–dog (0,24%), poultry-horse–goat/cow (0.24%). Using the technique of doublr immunodiffusion, 263 specimens asnwered positively to single food source: poultry (34,56%), dog (9,07%), rodent (7,60%), horse (4,41%), human (3,19%), goat/cow (2,94%) e opossum (2,70%). Fourteen triatioominae positively abswered to more than one host: poultry-dog (0,99%), poultry-rodent (0.99%), poultry-horse (0,24%), poultry-goat/cow (0,24), horse-goat/cow (0,24%), human-opossum (0,24%), rodent-opossum (0,24%) and human-poultry (0,24%). Fifty-nine triatominae did not react with the whole range of antisera utilized. It was demonstrated that the precipitin technique in capillary tubules was the most sensitive.
